Or Brachioplasty. is a procedure that aimed to re-tension the skin of the arm after a slackening of the skin.
The purpose of the procedure is to remove the excess skin, reduce the underlying fatty infiltration and reshape the whole arm.
Depending on the amount of skin to be resected, the scar of a brachioplasty can be:
– T-shaped with a horizontal branch at the armpit and a vertical branch on the inner side of each arm from the armpit to the elbow,
– pure horizontal,
– pure vertical.
We systematically associate a liposuction before performing skin reappearance.
This procedure takes place in the operating room under general anesthesia. The anesthesiologist will be seen in consultation no later than 48 hours before surgery, if general anesthesia or “vigill” is used.
The procedure can be practiced in “ambulatory”, that is to say with exit the same day after a few hours of supervision.
However, in some cases, a short overnight hospital stay may be preferable. Smoking cessation is highly recommended at least one month before and one month after surgery (tobacco may cause delayed healing).
No medication containing Aspirin should be taken within 10 days of surgery.
Complications are rare. A hematoma (blood clot) may occur within hours of surgery and may require surgery. The occurrence of an infection may happen because of the proximity of a natural fold (the armpit) and is prevented by a precise and post-operative rigorous hygiene until complete healing.
Internal arm disorders can be observed: normal sensitivity reappears most often within 3 to 6 months after surgery.
Finally, the most frequent complication is the reopening of the scar (delay of healing). The care and bandaids are then extended without this leading to any consequences on the future scar.
There may be some pain the first few days following the liposuction.
The scar of the arm is on the other hand not very painful and a return to normal life can be considered from the 7th day
As soon as the complete healing is obtained, which means between 15 and 21 days after the operation.
Yes following a massive weight loss (more than 20 kg), especially after surgery of obesity (gastric ring or Bypass).
If sagging skin is age-related, surgery is not covered.
In case social security covers the procedure, we charge an extra fee of 2000 € which can be taken care of by your complementary health insurance.
In case of a pure aesthetic act, the intervention costs between 3200 and 3800 €.
