Mummy Makeover

Why are more and more moms turning to mummy makeovers? For lots of reasons! But first of all, what is a mummy makeover? It's a procedure generally described as a combination of various cosmetic surgeries. Breast and/or body surgeries that a woman can benefit from after having her children.

It could be a breast lift, abdominoplasty or nymphoplasty. But it can also mean a little Botox to smooth out forehead wrinkles and crow's feet, or liposuction.

Surgery is not the only component of Mommy Makeover! In fact, it's a comprehensive treatment, including full psychological and emotional follow-up. After all, having children changes not only your body, but also your mind! Our relationship with our bodies is evolving, and many women need support to cope with these changes, despite the immense joy of having their child(ren).

Doctors Yaël Berdah and David Benjoar, aesthetic surgeons in Paris, explain what a Mummy Makeover is and what physical and psychological benefits are expected.

What is the Mommy Makeover and how do I go about it?

The Mommy Makeover is not a standard procedure. Rather, a variety of surgical procedures combine to reshape a new mother's body. These procedures are initially designed to treat individual areas such as the abdomen, hips, breasts or buttocks.

While the aesthetic benefits of a Mummy makeover are immediately apparent, the procedure can also do wonders for a woman's self-image and self-esteem. MM can also help on an emotional and psychological level.

Are you hesitating to call in a plastic surgeon to "erase the little traces" of your pregnancy?

At Dr. Berdah and Dr. Benjoar, we believe that moms should NOT feel guilty when considering a Mommy Makeover. Just because you've become a mother doesn't mean you shouldn't think about yourself!

Pregnancy and childbirth change a woman's body. So it's normal not to feel perfectly at ease in this new body. If undesirable physical changes persist after your pregnancy, it's perfectly natural to want to get back to normal.

Cosmetic surgery associated with Mummy Makeover

Mommy makeover is a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures performed in one or more operations. In general, these procedures are :

  • Breast lift: to lift the breasts and remove excess skin;
  • Tummy tuck: to remove excess abdominal skin and tighten the abdominal muscles;
  • Liposuction (often of the abdomen and lower body): to remove excess localized fat.

These three plastic surgery procedures are ultimately the most commonly requested by all women (even those who have not had children).

Sometimes, breast augmentation with breast prostheses is also performed to increase the volume of the breasts and restore their original shape (or even to increase their size a little 😉 ).

Women who have undergone a Caesarean section can also opt for scar revision.

Operating time varies between 1 hour 30 and 4 hours, and the operation is performed under general anaesthetic. Although this may seem a long time, it should be put into perspective in view of the time required to perform each of these procedures. What's more, it's sometimes better to have just one anaesthetic than three general anaesthetics!

Mummy makeover collectively addresses the classic repercussions of childbirth and breastfeeding on a woman's body: weight gain and stretching of the abdominal skin, loss of firmness and possible "deflation" of the breasts.

The main advantage of a Mommy makeover is that results are obtained in a single operation, while the recovery times of several procedures are combined.

The psychological benefits of a Mummy Makeover

Like all current cosmetic surgery procedures, Mummy Makeover offers long-lasting, harmonious physical results. But getting a flat stomach isn't the only satisfaction Mummy Makeover brings.

It's also about finding yourself beautiful again, putting on the swimsuits and clothes you love. And to feel good in your head, it's essential to feel good in your body.

And in a society where you're often judged on your looks (especially as a woman!), it's not always easy to embrace your new shape.

At Dr. Berdah and Dr. Benjoar, we know all about this. That's why we're with you every step of the way, both before and after you make your decision.

That way, we can make sure you're completely satisfied.

A few tips before you book your Mommy makeover!

To minimize the risk of phlebitis, be sure to have a hematological check-up prior to surgery.

To maximize the benefits of surgery, it is advisable to achieve a stable weight before the operation and to engage in regular physical activity once the post-operative remission period is over.
