The body lift
The body lift or circular dermolipectomy is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing excess abdominal skin and fat after a massive weight loss.
It is a surgery with rather heavy after-effects but offering a quite spectacular improvement of the silhouette.
Principles of the body lift
Massive weight loss can sometimes be brought about by dieting alone, but more often by weight-loss surgery: Ring, sleeve gastrectomy or Bypass.
The skin of the abdomen, distended by excess weight, is unable to retract satisfactorily during weight loss.
This leads to a veritable drooping of the tissues, with an anterior abdominal apron covering the pubis and ptosis of the gluteal region.
The aim of the body lift is to tighten the abdominal skin downwards and lift the soft tissue of the buttocks upwards.
The procedure removes a circular band of skin 20 to 30 cm high.
The procedure begins in the posterior section, with the patient lying on the stomach.
Extensive liposuction is performed. The aim of this step is to refine the areas to be removed as much as possible, so that only the skin is removed, leaving the underlying deep lymphatic network intact. An upper buttock flap is often buried to restore contour.
The patient is then turned over and an anterior tummy tuck is performed after liposuction.
The procedure takes an average of 4 to 5 hours in total.

The body lift in practice
Un bodylift est une chirurgie qui nécessite une préparation minutieuse.
Le poids doit être stabilisé depuis plus de 6 mois avec un indice de masse corporelle inférieur à 30. Le tabac doit être totalement arrêté 1 mois avant l’intervention.
Des carences en fer ou en vitamine liées à la chirurgie bariatrique (bypass) doivent être corrigées avant l’intervention.
Une consultation avec un anesthésiste est nécessaire au minimum 15 jours avant l’intervention. Le médecin contrôlera alors ces différents points et demandera éventuellement des avis supplémentaires (cardiologue par exemple).
L’intervention est réalisée sous anesthésie générale. Une période de jeûne de 6h est nécessaire avant l’intervention. Une sonde urinaire sera mise en place pendant l’anesthésie et sera retirée le lendemain de la chirurgie.
L’hospitalisation varie en moyenne de 3 à 5 jours.
Une gaine de contention ainsi que des bas anti-thrombose sont à porter en permanence dans les 15 jours qui suivent.
La position assise ne sera pas autorisée les 2 premiers jours afin de ne pas exercer de tension sur la cicatrice fessière.
Les soins de cicatrices durent en moyenne 15 jours.
La reprise du travail peut être envisagée entre 15 jours et 3 semaines après l’intervention.

What are the complications of a body lift?
A blood transfusion is necessary in about 5% of cases of body lift.
The most dreaded complication is phlebitis (formation of a blood clot in the legs) with a possibility of pulmonary embolism (migration of this clot into the lung). Its frequency is greatly reduced by getting up early, using anti-thrombosis stockings and heparin injections.
A hematoma may also appear at the surgical site and require a second visit to the operating room.
Finally, the most frequent complication is a post-operative lymph effusion. When it is very large, a puncture may be necessary. In addition, it can cause an infection.
Is the body-lift reimbursed by the health insurance?
Oui, le body lift peut être remboursé après un amaigrissement massif. L’accord de remboursement est soumis à la consultation du médecin conseil de l’assurance maladie qui est sollicité par une demande d’entente préalable remise par votre chirurgien.
Il faut noter que si vous avez déjà bénéficié d’une plastie abdominale, le bodylift ne peut être remboursé par l’assurance maladie.
How much does a Body Lift cost?
En cas de prise en charge du Body Lift par l’assurance maladie, nos honoraires sont de 6000 €. Une partie de ceux-ci peuvent éventuellement être pris en charge par votre complémentaire santé.
Si l’intervention n’est pas prise en charge, son coût total sera situé entre 9000 et 12000€.
