Body contouring surgery - Calf surgery
For some people, calves can appear too thin or too fat and be experienced as a real disgrace. The calves are an integral part of the figure, and cosmetic surgery offers reliable and simple techniques to improve their appearance.
Principles
There are two types of cosmetic calf surgery: calf reduction and calf augmentation.
Reduction of the size of the calves
The reduction in diameter of the calf can be obtained by liposuction with very good results.
This procedure is performed in the operating room under general or epidural anesthesia. It requires an average of one night of hospitalization.
The scars, about half a centimeter long, are located on both sides of the ankle and remain very discreet.
After the operation, wearing support socks for one month helps reduce swelling and induces better skin retraction.
Increase in calf size
Too thin calves can be observed in many cases. It may be the result of a trauma (after-effects of a circular cast that was too tight in childhood), a disease (after-effects of poliomyelitis) or simply due to your genetic make-up.
The goal of this procedure is to restore a harmonious volume of the leg but also sometimes to correct an asymmetry between the two calves.
In Practice
Two surgical techniques can be distinguished:
- the placement of silicone implants
injection of purified fat or liposuction of the calves
Liposuction of the calves
This technique consists of taking fat from areas of the body where it is in excess (stomach, outer thighs...), purifying it and reinjecting it in the form of a graft to the calves. This is a recent technique that is gradually replacing the use of implants.
This procedure takes place in the operating room under general anesthesia. It requires an average of one night of hospitalization.
The scars are millimetric.
After the operation, wearing support socks for one month helps to improve the graft take and improves the result.
Calf implants
This procedure takes place in the operating room under general anesthesia. It requires an average of two nights of hospitalization.
Through an incision in the knee fold, the silicone prosthesis is inserted in the deep part of the calf under the membrane that surrounds the muscles. One or two implants are placed depending on the case.
Afterwards, the muscles are rested for about 3 weeks to allow the tissues surrounding the prosthesis to heal in the right position.
This is a heavy procedure that we reserve for major atrophy or aesthetic requests from bodybuilders.
