Reconstructive surgery

In some cases, breast implants may be covered by the health insurance system. This is known as reconstructive surgery. The main indications are removal of the breast for cancer or disabling breast deformities.

Cosmetic surgery

In the context of cosmetic surgery, breast implants are not covered by health insurance or private mutual insurance companies.

PIP and health insurance

As a result of defects in the production of PIP implants, the French health insurance system has decided to pay for their removal. However, the cost of fitting new implants remains at the patient's expense.
