Breast deformities: tuberous breasts & other breast deformities
Tuberous breast surgery before and after : Results and solutions
Tuberous breasts are a breast malformation that appears as early as puberty and can be a source of major complexes. Fortunately, thanks to advances in breast surgery, it is now possible to obtain naturally curved and symmetrical breasts.
On this page, discover before-and-after photos of patients who have undergone tuberous breast surgery, as well as the techniques used to correct this malformation and achieve harmonious results.
Tuberous breasts: what are they?
A tuberous breast presents an abnormal growth due to a fibrous ring that prevents the natural development of the breast. This abnormality can result in :
- Narrow breast base and tubular shape
- An enlarged and sometimes prominent areola
- Breast asymmetry, sometimes marked
- An abnormally high submammary fold
Tuberous breasts can affect just one breast (breast asymmetry) or both, with varying degrees of severity classified into three stages (mild, moderate, severe).
Tuberous breast surgery: techniques and solutions
Corrective surgery for tuberous breasts is based on several techniques, adapted to each patient according to the severity of the malformation:
- Breast plastic surgery: remodelling of the mammary gland to widen the base of the breast and give it a more natural shape.
- Breast augmentation: for lack of volume, the addition of breast implants or fat through lipofilling can create a more balanced breast.
- Areola reduction or repositioning: to correct an areola that is too wide or asymmetrical.
- Treatment of breast ptosis: if the breast is drooping, a breast lift is combined with the correction of tuberous breasts.
The operation takes place under general anaesthetic, lasting between 1h30 and 2 hours, and patients can generally go home the same day or the following day.
Tuberous breasts before/after: what results to expect?
The results of tuberous breast surgery are visible within the first few weeks, although the final appearance stabilizes between 3 and 6 months after the procedure.
Improvements after surgery:
- More rounded, symmetrical breasts
- A refocused, harmonious areola
- A correctly repositioned submammary fold
- Progressive healing with fading marks over time

Post-operative recovery and care
- Hospitalization: discharge possible on the same day or after an overnight observation period
- Wearing a medical bra: 6 weeks day and night to promote healing
- Return to work: between 5 and 15 days, depending on professional activity
- Resuming sport: after a minimum of 6 weeks
- Absorption of swelling and bruising: within a few weeks
- Complete healing: between 6 and 12 months
Scars are discreet and well positioned (around the areola, sometimes vertical in the case of ptosis correction). Sun protection is recommended on scars for at least one year.
